1:30 – 3:30 E = Empathy Rhonda Barovsky, PsyD and Heather Clague, MD The Five Secrets of Effective Communication.
Learn and practice five “secrets” that will increase the effectiveness of your communication and connection, with patients and others.
Help patients feel heard, understood and respected.
Repair ruptures quickly and with warmth.
Turn ruptures into opportunities to strengthen relationships or have breakthroughs in therapy. Express difficult feelings with grace.
Break 3:30 – 3:45
3:45 – 4:15 Introduction to the Daily Mood Log(DML) Rhonda Barovsky, PsyD We will walk you through the use of this powerful tool.  Helping clients identify upsetting events, feelings, negative thoughts, so we are set up for the powerful work ahead.
Participants will engage in the process.  If you want, you will have the opportunity to volunteer to do personal work with our experienced therapists. And you’ll have the opportunity for doing personal work in small groups on day three.
The Daily Mood Log is a foundational tool that can be used in session and between sessions.  Learn how to teach your clients to use the DML so that you can help them build their toolbox.
4:15 – 5:00 Introduction to A – Assessment of Resistance Leigh Harrington, MD Overview of Agenda Setting, Outcome and Process Resistance
We know resistance is a big player in therapy.  Did you know that there are two types of resistance for each challenge? We will introduce you to both Outcome Resistance and Process Resistance. Learn how to work with resistance so that it helps power therapy as opposed to slowing it down.

Let’s break down ambivalence! And use it to connect with and value the patient, while allowing it’s recognition to energize change. Clients are often hesitant to create the change they seek.  The reasons vary from anxiety, depression, habits and relationship issues. How to be sure you and the client are aiming for the same place, so you can work together to achieve their goals. No more pushing and pulling. Ah!  The joys of teamwork!

1:00 – 2:15 pm Process Resistance. Heather Clague, MD Achieving lasting results takes effort; your clients will need clear guidance about what it will take to achieve the changes they want.  Learn how to provide your clients with compassionate accountability for doing the hard work of change.

Live Demonstration of TEAM CBT in action. Leigh Harrington, MD and Rhonda Barovsky, PsyD This is your opportunity to see the whole model in action.  We will demonstrate what a TEAM CBT therapy session might look like with a lucky volunteer. We will show you what each component looks like… testing, empathy/connecting with the client, assessing resistance/boosting motivation, and methods! A crowd pleaser!  🙂

Using TEAM-CBT:

Practice the Whole Model – personal work in small groups

Trainers support the small groups as well as other volunteer trained small group leaders.

Each group should have a copy of “Healing Yourself with TEAM-CBT

Practice the Whole Model in Small Groups

Your opportunity to put what you have been learning into practice with your colleagues. In small groups, go through the personal work with one of the participants being the client and the others playing the role of the therapists.
